Face lift: alternative options

Picture my face before – I had puffiness under eyes, sagging jowls, wrinkles around my eyes and mouth, lines on my forehead and an undefined chin. To top it all, I was  only in my late thirties at the time.

I decided I needed to look into what face lift alternatives were available.

Puffiness Under Eyes
I did major research into active ingredients and the results obtained from various products. I didn’t want to use concealers – I wanted to fix the problem, not hide it. My final selection that I tried and had visible success treating puffiness under eyes are:

Although I did see positive results with these products, it just wasn’t enough difference to justify the ongoing cost.

Sagging Jowls
First of all, forget about cream treatments. I tried dozens with little to no effect on my sagging jowls. Sure, some creams really do help with complexion and can do an excellent job. But for treating sagging jowls, I found only one method that made a noticeable difference…

Laser Resurfacing: Cost between $500-$1000.

I was quite worried before I had this done. You see, all I knew about lasers was what I had seen in my brother’s space movies. But the doctor went to great lengths to reassure me before the procedure, and my fears just drifted away.

The laser treatment works by heating the skin below the surface. This fools the skin into thinking it’s been injured, which tricks it into producing new collagen for repairs. It’s the collagen that tightens the skin.

It doesn’t hurt but you do feel the warmth. What did bother me was the burning smell from oil in my pores and the associated popping and crackling noises like frying bacon in a pan :-(

In all, it took about an hour. And the beneficial effects increase over the following six months as more collagen is produced. But, in my case I don’t think the improvements achieved were worth the cost.

Lines And Wrinkles
After I’d plucked up the courage, I had Botox treatment for wrinkles. I needed courage because I know that Botox is a poison, and it’s injected into my face!

I saw the full effects of the treatment for wrinkles 3 days after the procedure – this was expected. And I have to say, the reduction effect on my lines and wrinkles was really superb. Unfortunately, some of my face muscles felt a little dead, and the effects  on the wrinkles are only temporary – about 4 months.

The other negative is the cost, typically around $300-$400.

After all the above, I was just a short hop away from finding my face lift without surgery solution :-)
